TCC#11 - Looking for a streak

Standard Podcast [38:59m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Dave joins John and Rebecca in “the studio” while we have Alanah and J.J. on the line for this slightly longer edition of the podcast. We tackle the latest news regarding the end of Alanah’s blog, Vancouver Canucks Op Ed, and look ahead to what we can expect from her new role with Kukla’s Korner. You can read her first feature article on her new home, “Bringing Hockey to the People“. So yes, the hockey blogging will continue.

That also sparks a brief debate over blogger and podcaster fans of the NHL in general, and their role in covering their favorite hockey teams in this age of new media. Whoa… deep.

Record as of this recording: 15-15-1 (5th in the Northwest Division)

Canucks! Oh yes, we talk Canucks as well. Carolina, Calgary, and Phoenix are the latest foes to face, so we do our best to cover our likes and dislikes over the games. The way things have been going, we have all been surprised with who we’ve been liking on the ice. We also get a little bit of a Vote for Rory update, tackle goalie mask designs, and toss around various thoughts about who’s hot and who we’d like to see contribute some more.

TCC#10 - Hanging out at the Shark Club in downtown Vancouver

Standard Podcast [28:33m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Ten episodes into the podcast, all of the members join up after the game against Edmonton for drinks and yakking about the Canucks. This was our first opportunity to have everyone meet face to face, and we had a microphone to record a little discussion. Some of us had been there a little while longer than the rest, and our blood alcohol level might have shown it.

Record as of this episode: 13-14-1 (3rd in the Northwest Division)

The Shark Club made for a very interesting atmosphere for trying to watch a unimpressive game, especially on a Monday night where the NFL takes precedence at one of the closest drinking establishments to GM Place. J.J. was still a little wiped out after returning from a vacation to Las Vegas and shares some experiences with catching a couple games in sin city. Dave brings up an interesting point about “we are all Canucks,” and Alanah had a backstage pass to the game that offers up a lot of great insights to the game against the Oilers. Rebecca brings up some good points about our lack of puck luck, and John starts to wonder about a conspiracy to our lack of scoring, but that could be the beer talking.

We realize that this isn’t like our regular episodes with a recap of all the games since the last one, but we’ll get back on track with our next episode.  Leave your feedback in the meantime, and we hope you enjoy this “live remote” version of the podcast.  It’s almost like you’re right there with us!

TCC#9 - Manic Depress..ing Canucks

Standard Podcast [41:04m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Our boys keep us going on a roller coaster ride only a true Canucks fan can appreciate. A win in Detroit, a disgrace in Nashville and follow up embarrassment in Colorado are all discussed along with the usual banter and opinions. Where we need improvement, what was Viggy thinking and various happenings around the league round out this week’s topics.

Record as of this podcast: 11-12-1 (4th in the Northwest Division)

We’re without Dave in this episode, which may be a good thing since Rebecca takes a little shot at former Canuck, Jovo. We’re looking ahead to a homestand and the return of Anson Carter to the Garage, which excites John to no end. Finally, JJ and Alanah share some controversy floating around the web about the NHL All Star ballot.

TCC#8 - Putting Pucks in the Net

Standard Podcast [26:20m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Although the water is still murky in Vancouver, the Canucks’ play has made everything a little brighter. After a dismal beating last week, our boys come back with two victories since the last episode.

Alanah is back online with the gang as we discuss our recent wins. J.J. recaps his experience at the game vs St Louis on Friday night and Dave gives us his perspective, after attending the Chicago match last night.

Record as of this podcast: 10-10-1 (3rd in the Northwest Division)

The quick little defenseman catching our attention, our fearless Captain almost getting a hat trick and Kesler’s right hook all lifted our spirits. With 3 more games this week, and no shortage of shots on goal, we know the Canucks have the potential to kick some serious butt.

TCC#6 - Hanging in there

Standard Podcast [36:34m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

This episode had a lot of bumps to work through before it was published, and this might be a good comparison to what the Canucks are going through right now. Unlike the Canucks, everyone was here for this one. That couldn’t stop a few problems from creeping up, but, much like the Canucks, we worked our way towards a stellar finish.

Record as of this podcast: 8-7-1 (2nd in the Northwest Division)

There were a variety things to cover, including the two losses against Minnesota and Colorado, a hard fought win in Dallas, injuries and changes to the defence, and we can’t seem to keep away from the goalie debate. There’s a lot here, so listen in to check out the latest brouhaha that The Crazy Canucks has to offer.

Also, be sure to check out the recently redesigned Canucks.com website. Looking good, guys!

TCC#5 - What the world needs now is more Ovechkin

Standard Podcast [23:50m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

We go ‘Dave-less’ this episode as Alanah, JJ, John and Rebecca bring you this week’s discussion. The Ovechkins Capitals were in town on Friday and JJ shares his experience being at the game. From the awe-inspiring young Russians of the league, goalie showdowns, to shootouts.

Murmurs about the crazy schedules, that only bring players by once every election year, who we’d like to see more of and who we could really do without.

Nashville handed us a ghoulish defeat last night while we’re still getting used to the lines, players and Coach Viggy’s words of wisdom.

TCC#4 - We Are All Cardiac Canucks

Standard Podcast [33:00m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Everyone gathers together for this episode, fresh from a 5-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks earlier tonight. The last four games have been such an impressive display by the Canucks that it’s really tough for anyone to really put a grasp on them (except for Dave), but we all know that they have been some great battles. It doesn’t matter if we won them or not because they were all pretty great, but luckily we took 3 out of the last four.

We take a look at some amazing OT wins over St. Louis and Nashville, talk about the showdown in Dallas, and another impressive win against the Hawks before the boys finally come home for a few games. We’re still getting used to the new look for the Canucks, but these recent games have really impressed all of us.

Record as of this podcast:
6-4-1 (2nd in the Northwest Division)

There is also some mention about the debacle in Philly, and some discussion about those Canucks who have moved on to different teams in the NHL. Of course, we take a moment to point out that no one can dispute the magic happening in Pittsburgh, even though it’s totally un-Canucks related. Oh yeah, and can we get the PPV games in HDTV and the radio broadcasts in FM? Great, thanks.

TCC#3 - Seven Games Down: The Jekyll and Hyde Canucks

Standard Podcast [32:47m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Everybody’s here for this episode as we are now five games into the 2006 season. We go through our first impressions of how the lines have been put together, who’s standing out, and who needs to step up. We can’t fail to mention something about the goal and the guy who stands in front of it to block pucks… or something like that.

There’s a lot talk about now that we’re seeing how this team is performing on the ice. A lot is happening on the bench, and based on some listener feedback, we dig a little deeper into the man calling the shots behind the bench.

Record as of this podcast:
3-3-1 (3rd in the Northwest)

Looking ahead to the next few games to round out the week, we give some of our insights as to what we can expect from St. Louis and Nashville match ups.

TCC#2 - So Let the Season Begin

Standard Podcast [28:52m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Finally! The 2006 NHL season has officially started, and we present some thoughts about how the first four games for the Canucks have gone. DaveO was unavailable for this edition, but we covered a lot of ground without him.

Recording took place just after the 2-1 (SO) loss to the Minnesota Wild earlier tonight, so we talked about the game a little since it was fresh on our minds. Additionally, we also cover the issue of being known more as the “Vancouver Luongos”, who else is impressing us this early in the season, and the changes we’ve seen on the bench, namely Vigneault.

Be sure to chime in with your thoughts by leaving a comment or sending us an email, feedback [at] thecrazycanucks.com. Good, bad, agree, or disagree, we want to hear from you!

TCC#1 - Pre-season thoughts; Pyatt’s on MySpace; Ready for Detroit; Learning about Luongo

Standard Podcast [20:57m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

The premiere episode lands of The Crazy Canucks. The miracles of Skype bring us all together for this experiment. We’re still getting everything under control, so you are learning as we go along with our podcast. Stick with us as we get all the kinks worked out, but this is an ambitious adventure with the scope of the project we are putting together.

We gather all the members for this episode, even catching DaveO on his way home from work, live via cellphone. We take a look at how we’ve felt about the pre-season, talk about Pyatt’s MySpace page, Luongo’s interview on Yahoo! Sports, look forward to the start of the season against Detroit, and examine the recent talk about who will be on what line with who.
