A roundtable podcast about the Vancouver Canucks, by fans and bloggers.

About

The Crazy Canucks is a roundtable podcast that focuses on our favorite NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks. We are a group of bloggers, podcasters and hockey enthusiasts from all over British Columbia, who, through the magic of Skype, come together once a week to cheer and rag on our beloved team.

Like you, we are Canucks fans first and foremost. We speak as Canucks fans; we feel as Canucks fans; we bleed Canucks blue like Canucks fans. Our passion goes beyond what other media outlets do. Our passion comes from being Canucks fans and this podcast is a product of that.

The Cast

John John Bollwitt » RadioZoom
Hometown: Iowa, USA, now living in Vancouver, BC
Canucks Fan Since: 2004-ish, but paying attention for a long while
Favorite Canuck: Sami Salo, Trevor Linden, Roberto Luongo
Site URL: http://audihertz.net (blog), http://radiozoom.net (podcast)

John is one of those rare Americans who loves the sport of hockey. Growing up in the Midwest, he grew up playing baseball and football, but floor hockey in gym class was always his favorite. After getting busted for sneaking into the storage closest at the high school to play with his buddies outside of school hours, John graduated to roller hockey, the position of goalie being his calling. He'll be the first to blame NHL '93 for the SegaCD for this, discovering how awesome, and impenetrable, Patrick Roy was as a goalie.

Suffering through the glowing puck era and lack of hockey in his home state, John was constantly searching for a team to capture his love for the game. Colorado was a natural calling with his inspiration playing between the pipes for a few years, but it wasn't until meeting his eventual wife, Rebecca, that he came to appreciate the history of the Canucks and love the team.

Rebecca Rebecca Bollwitt » Miss604.com
Hometown: Surrey, BC, now living in Vancouver, BC
Canucks Fan Since: 1980
Favorite Canuck: Trevor Linden, although Matt Cooke is all heart & personality
Site URL: http://miss604.com (blog), http://radiozoom.net (podcast)

Rebecca has been a Canucks fan since the retina-burning yellow V jerseys first smudged across her TV screen as a child. Her brother used to quiz her on team names, logos and cities until she knew them all by heart. When included in road hockey tournaments, being the youngest sibling, she was always the goalie without a stick (although sometimes a broom was donated).

She will deny all reports of being a puck bunny, and her most cherished Canucks memories derive from the 1994 cup run and the team that made it all possible. Despite a 13 month stint in Boston, she's never lost touch with her team, and the game. Recently, she's been sharing her hockey know-how and love for the Canucks with her husband, John who is a transplant from America's midwest. Blue for pass, red for shoot.

Alanah Alanah McGinley Downie » Canucks and Beyond
Hometown: Duncan, BC (b. Edmonton, AB)
Canucks Fan Since: A long time
Favorite Canuck: Matt Cooke, Trevor Linden
Site URL: http://www.canucksandbeyond.com (blog)

Alanah has been blogging about the Canucks since 2003. She maintains her own blog at Canucks & Beyond, contributes to Kukla's Korner on a regular basis and also has a working arrangement with Fox Sports. She doesn't take hockey all that seriously, and has been known to share her opinions with rampant disregard for things like facts and public embarrassment. Her favourite Canucks players change week-to-week, but Matt Cooke never leaves the top-5. Alanah lives on the island with both a dog and a husband.

Dave Dave Olson » Canucks Outsider
Hometown: North Vancouver, BC (b. Saskatoon, SK)
Canucks Fan Since: A loooong time
Favorite Canuck: Stan Smyl (honorable mentions: Rod Sedlbauer, Artem Chubarov, Harold Snepts)
Site URL: http://www.hockeynw.com (podcast)

A fan since his earliest memories, DaveO first wrote about the Cauncks in 1979 chronicling GM Jake Milford's recruiting trip to Sweden and is still prone to loquacious reminiscing about the 1982 cup run. Dave is a world-travelling international ambassador for Canucks culture from watching the 1994 cup run in Japan and impromptu street hockey in Guam, to curating the legendary hockey lounge in Olympia, WA. Dave also makes the Olympic Outsider podcast, posted a photo essay from SLC2002 and publishes articles in magazines and journals. Now living in North Van, he often records podcasts while riding the Seabus and wearing his signed Dennis Kearns jersey.

J.J. J.J. Guerrero » Canucks Hockey Blog
Hometown: Vancouver in body, Surrey at heart
Canucks Fan Since: the days of the Life Line (Courtnall - Ronning - Linden)
Favorite Canuck: Markus Naslund first, 20 other guys a close second
Site URL: http://canuckshockey.blogspot.com (blog)

J.J. is the guy behind the guy behind the guy behind Canucks Hockey Blog. Okay, he's THE guy behind Canucks Hockey Blog. And he blogs on canucks.com too. That's how much he loves to pretend he knows hockey.

He likes to brag that he won four hockey pools in one season, but he won't mention that he's dead last in all of them this year.

J.J. and his wife Tracy really do love the Canucks however. J.J. won the jersey off Nolan Baumgartner's back at the end of the '02-'03 season and has named their family dog, Baumer, after him.
