TCC#23 - Trade deadline decompression

Standard Podcast [61:44m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Dave was a healthy scratch for this episode, but the rest of us gather to take on the past three games against L.A.(W), Dallas(OTL), and St. Louis(L). Also, we dive into the excitement of the NHL trade deadline, look at what the Canucks got, and examine how other teams in the division made out.

Record as of this episode: 36-22-5
    Northwest Division: 1st
    Western Conference: 3rd

Ryan Smyth going to the Islanders took a bulk of that attention in terms of the trade deadline, but that doesn’t make us Oilers fans by any means. Also, Bertuzzi going to Detroit means that we still might see him back in Vancouver before the season is over. We also look into some listener feedback, especially about the topic of the Canucks playing a game next season in the U.K.(Note: NHL confirmed that the Kings and Ducks would be doing this next season as of today, not the Canucks as our European friends might have hoped.) Additionally, we were given a scoop to a rumor on the new uniforms for next season, fueling the fire for a potential change to the logo.

    Keep up the good work!

Just an ‘amen’ to how woeful Google Video is, the most recent Canucks game is Dec 14th vs Calgary. For those of you playing at home, that was Fitzpatrick’s return from injury (so, the game we sent Tremblay back to the Moose).

thanks for the feedback of the feedback! shame, or not, that the canucks won’t be playing in London after all. Oh well, still probably worth it. Interesting hearing about google video, because back in november, you could download from there. I think there was something about it on Alanah’s old blog. It was only in beta stage then, so maybe now they can disable that feature.

Besides Google video being woefully behind in games…it is inaccessible in Chiner. The bourgeois proletariat internet of the capitalist dog west cannot be trusted with their games and feelings of religion.

There are ways to get full games on the internet (but not for me right now, as my main computer is out of commission right now…slow and steady withdrawals of Canuck hockey), of which the NHL should explore. As Johan mentions, the download feature of the games is key…I don’t know about you, but I find that I cannot kick back, open a cold one, and get comfy on the sofa when my game is playing on my 17 inch computer monitor. I like to download and burn to DVD, so I can watch the game in all its glory. The NHL should realize this, release full games with all commercials, and charge people like me $50 a season to download and watch games in DVD quality.

Trade deadline was incredible this year…but I have to say that the whole Ryan Smyth deal was soo eerily similar. Favorite son of the team traded to the Islanders. Now, I have to remind myself that Trevor Linden was traded for Todd Bertuzzi…so, in essence, that was a pretty good deal. But, OHHHHH, did it hurt at the time. But…did any of you find it strange that he went into his press conference at the airport without his teeth? What’s up with that??? I dunno…I always travel with my chicklets, don’t you??

The phony uniforms…I could only hope and wish they would do the Johnny Canuck version for the home uni. The away uni should be a white with VANCOUVER spelled diagonally across the chest. For those of you that like the stick and rink…keep it on the shoulders.

Ahh…after a week of holiday and some problems with my Juice podcast client…I finally have gotten things downloaded and I feel as though I am grounded again.

    Happy New Year…Go Canucks!

I need to add one thing…the Team 1040 podcasts are good…the quality is very good..but, the size of the files are brutal. Have they ever heard of compression software over there??

Regarding what you all said about hockey access in Europe. In terms of TV, iirc, there are a few available sattelite/cable channels, including a German channel that does a lot of hockey (don’t ask me which, I don’t live there at the moment). The problem is more that getting any specific game is difficult… so fans of a team are kind of SOL. Fans of the game are better off.

In any case, thank you for great sites, and an interesting podcast.

After last night’s win over the Wild, I’m feeling confident in the Canucks’ ability to beat playoff teams. Sure they don’t show up against non-playoff teams, but at least the effort is there with teams like Minnesota, Detroit, etc.
But can we start beating Nashville???
