Rebecca takes a healthy scratch on this episode while the rest of us, even Dave, gather together to take a look at the last four games against Minnesota, Chicago, Colorado, and Anaheim. Things have been looking really good lately, and we all feel incredibly excited at the fact that the playoffs seem more and more in sight.

    Western Conference: 3rd

With 22 games left in the season and the trade deadline looming, there’s a lot to talk about, but none of us are really too sure as to what we can expect. Something is bound to happen, and we all have our own theories as to who might go or stay. A listener from London checks in with a question about a possible Canucks game next season in the U.K.

A lot of things are going well, but as fans, we know that we have to be careful to not get too far ahead of ourselves. However, listen to our episodes from early this season and the mood was incredibly different. Oh how things can change…

Extra music featured in this episode by Derek Miller, a Vancouver blogger, podcaster, and musician who is currently dealing with cancer related health issues. We’d like to extend our wishes for a speedy recovery as he is currently undergoing treatment.

Hey, guys! Great podcast. Living in Moose-land, we normally take great offense to the Canucks grabbing the best Moose players to sit in the press box during the playoffs. However, we normally get them back after seven games, so our complaints last for about two weeks.

My question for you guys is this: with the play of Moran, Rypien, and Reid in Manitoba, do you feel these guys will be in the press box or on the ice come April? As a follow-up to the question, are there any depth players that you’d think would be a good pick-up to help keep the Moose competitive? Brad May’s name has come up in Colorado as a rental being an UFA after this season, and he would demand far less in return than a Bill Guerin or Martin Gelinas.

    Thanks for the good wishes!

Another of your devoted listeners, I find it kind of strange how, it seems, the great majority of BC-based Canucks fans aren’t so hot on the Canucks opening with the game in London. I mean, you all get to watch Canucks games, even on TV, on a fairly regular basis. Yes, the UK has a small minority of hockey fans, but we are devoted none the less. Over on the Canucks board, there are hundreds of UK and North Western European Canuck fans. It is so easy to get to London from anywhere in Europe ($40!!!) that AEG (owners of the Kings and the Dome) could easily fill the Millenium Dome. We too deserve a chance to see our team in action. I know you didn’t express a whole-hearted veto, but after so many oppresive comments toward the game from the Canuck community, I felt a need to express my feelings.

I agree with you guys on the NHL trying to expand into Europe vs the USA. Dave-O is correct…I feel as though you need to grow the existing base…while expanding into other regions. At least they are going to London, instead of Barcelona or something like that.

I know through my internet ‘browsing’ there is also a huge interest and fan base of Canuck fans in Australia and throughout Asia. Does that mean the NHL should be planning games in Sydney or Hong Kong? Mmmm…maybe not.

I’m going to eat all my words from early in the season. I remember posting on Alanah’s old site about how the Canucks would be brutal and boring. But, this year they have turned out pretty good. I have these visions of the playoffs in my head…and it is starting to scare me when I see the similarities of this Canuck teams with recent teams that have won the Cup.

All I want is one good round…get past the first round. It’s bee so long since we have enjoyed that.

Geez, I should’ve contributed to these comments sooner. Sorry!

Teebz — good questions about the Moose. Maybe we’ll get into it on this week’s show. I do really like those players myself, particularly Moran’s and Reid’s recent visit.

Derek — And best wishes again. I hope it’s going okay. :)

Johan — I agree with you, it’s foolish to neglect foreign fans, though Dave (and GZ here in the comments) make good points.

My own thought is that the most affordable and effective way to give overseas fans more access would be live streaming the games online, or something along those lines. I realize there are also sorts of broadcasting rights issues, but expanding access online would make the most sense to my mind.

How difficult is it to see games in the UK right now?

GZ ExPat — Don’t be greedy — we missed the playoffs completely last year. Just get us INTO the playoffs and I’ll start praying for round 2 after that!
