Standard Podcast [38:59m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Dave joins John and Rebecca in “the studio” while we have Alanah and J.J. on the line for this slightly longer edition of the podcast. We tackle the latest news regarding the end of Alanah’s blog, Vancouver Canucks Op Ed, and look ahead to what we can expect from her new role with Kukla’s Korner. You can read her first feature article on her new home, “Bringing Hockey to the People“. So yes, the hockey blogging will continue.

That also sparks a brief debate over blogger and podcaster fans of the NHL in general, and their role in covering their favorite hockey teams in this age of new media. Whoa… deep.

Record as of this recording: 15-15-1 (5th in the Northwest Division)

Canucks! Oh yes, we talk Canucks as well. Carolina, Calgary, and Phoenix are the latest foes to face, so we do our best to cover our likes and dislikes over the games. The way things have been going, we have all been surprised with who we’ve been liking on the ice. We also get a little bit of a Vote for Rory update, tackle goalie mask designs, and toss around various thoughts about who’s hot and who we’d like to see contribute some more.

    Sake?!

This is a serious question…I’ve noted Alanah’s pending departure from indie blogging to mainstream blogging (heh)…the burning question is..

Will you (Alanah) continue to participate in Crazy Canucks podcasts?

Goalie masks…I would really love it if someone would just come out with a white mask and brown pads and play the whole year that way. Jim Craig. Retro all the way, baby.

Dave…you hit it on the head. Your blogs and podcasts DO make a difference to fans that cannot get connected as well. Alanah’s recent post on KK was very good…I could almost smell the ice again. The Hockey News did a pretty decent magazine ‘Behind the Scenes’ prior to the season. The best stories are about the trainers…the guys that pay out the per diem…that sort of stuff. Thanks to all of you for helping keep me connected

I’ve got the Coyotes game in the bag…burning it to DVD tonight. And my kid was playing street hockey today outside the house. Is this a great world or what?!

    Hey Expat,
I don’t think you can ever accuse a chick who photoshops Patrick Roy into a ballet costume of being “mainstream”… and I haven’t even STARTED on Calgary Flames players I intend to defile later this season!

So I’ll be sticking with the podcast. They’re stuck with me. :)

GZ, I totally dug your recent post with the street hockey games and blogged it too.

A lot of the guys i play pick up ice hockey with (or who i try to stay up with ;-)) have some China connection so i’ll put the word out and maybe we can gather up a big box of stinky gear for the squirts over there.

DaveO…thanks. I found a connection for some sticks…they are on their way. For a bit of an exchange, I’m getting 6 sticks and 2 goalie sticks! Not sure if I am repaying with single malt or beer. The kids are psyched.

I had to try and find some netting for the goals…I picked up an old volleyball net which I will cut and stitch together to get them across the whole goals.

Loved your blog post…and thanks for the thoughts. It is amazing how hockey just falls off the map down here in southern China…although Beijing has some activity, which I found from a commenter on my blog.

    Go ‘nucks!
